CIRCULARITY FURNITURE

Circularity Furniture is about changing the way we all think about manufacturing.

Built on the experience of 40 years making upholstered furniture that really lasts, we have taken on the challenges of developing manufacturing techniques that eliminate both waste and also the toxic materials that are harmful to us and our environment.
For example all of our products are foam free and have ultra- low levels of VOC’s.
We are ensuring that everything can be recycled and reused at the end of the product’s life.

FABRIC PARTNERS

We pride ourselves on offering high quality products that meet the diverse needs of our customers. A significant part of this commitment is ensuring that our fabrics are sourced from reliable, innovative, and sustainable suppliers. LINEAR MANUFACTURING

Up to now upholstery manufacturing has been a ‘linear’ process.

TAKE - MAKE - USE - DISPOSE - POLLUTE

Raw materials are extracted and then large amounts of energy used to manufacture a product that is used, thrown away and mainly becomes waste.

This is mainly because the materials and processes used in making soft seating have made refurbishing, renewing and recycling it virtually impossible.
That is until now.

CIRCULAR DESIGN

We have exchanged Linear Manufacturing for Circular Processes.
Circular manufacturing principles allow us to:
MAKE - USE - REUSE - RENEW - RECYCLE - REDESIGN
Circular principles mean that raw materials maintain their usefulness through many lifetimes. This is because they are not being thrown away at the end of their life, they are being recycled and used again and again.
This method of manufacturing means that raw materials never become waste.

We are committed to zero landfill waste. Our modular designs enable onsite refurbishment or component replacement, eliminating the need for removal from site.
This reduces transport-related emissions and significantly extends the product life cycle.

And when you no longer need your furniture, it can be taken back and given a second life.
It’s all part of our commitment to true circularity in furniture design.

CIRCULARITY DESIGN PRINCIPLES

MODULAR DESIGN

CNC FRAME
Frames use a CNC interlocking system that removes the need for staples. All components can be assembled and disassembled simply and quickly, making individual parts cost effective and easy to repair, refurbish and recycle.

FSC CERTIFIED
All wood used in the manufacture of the frames is FSC certified with full traceability from the forest to end product. This ensures that all our wood materials are from a sustainably managed source.

ADAPTABLE CONFIGURATIONS
The designs are adaptable, so that products can work in multiple configurations and layouts to accommodate any space.
Particularly useful for breakout seating, sofas and corner groups.

FOAM FREE

HYPOALLERGENIC ALTERNATIVE
We don’t use foam, we use material made from 100% recycled fibres.
This amazing hypoallergenic alternative offers comfort and performance, as well as being less harmful to the environment than PU foam.

ULTRA LOW VOC'S
Most upholstery foams are petroleum based products and release high VOC’s that add to indoor pollution and health issues. Our filling offers a safe alternative with ultra low VOC's
(volatile organic compounds).

ELIMINATING TOXIC WASTE
& DOWNCYCLING
Unlike traditional foam, which is often downcycled into lower-value products (ultimately being discarded into landfill where it leaches chemicals into the environment) our foam free filling can be fully recycled into the same product, reducing waste and environmental impact.

CLOSED LOOP SYSTEM

LOCALISED PRODUCTION
We use responsibly sourced materials from local suppliers and manufacture in Leeds ,  reducing transportation emissions and supporting our local economy.

REPAIR AND REFURBISHMENT
The modular design allows for all components to be repaired or refurbished based on your individual needs, maximising the overall product lifecycle.

RESPONSIBLE RECYCLING
Up to now, recycling facilities have regarded upholstered furniture as too expensive and complex to handle.
We guarantee that our core product materials including fabrics can be fully disassembled and recycled so that every element of our furniture remains in circulation or can be redesigned for use again.
